Bogolan Fabric, made by artisanal bogolan producers in the Dogon Area of Mali. It is made from 100% cotton, which is locally grown, locally spun and locally woven into small strips. The strips are still recognisable in the fabric. The fabric is coloured with mud- hence the name mud-cloth- and also with other natural dyes such as tree-bark. This design features the typical stylistic figures for the Dogon (see also Bogolan from Mali on this same website for more info).
This piece is 175 cm long and 120 cm wide (8 bands @15 cm each). The two short ends have already been finished, so it can be readily used as throw or table cover.
The fabric has already been washed once. The colours will gradually fade after more frequent washing. At the same time, the fabric will become increasingly soft.
